Although this user experience was created for "advanced users", our client understood that even "advanced users" can become frustrated by a user experience that is difficult to use. The client also knew how important it would be to have a product that looked great for a sales demonstration. We worked closely with the engineering team to mock up our ideas (and theirs), conducted field studies with clients on the west coast, developed new feature ideas, created new visualizations to use in the product, and created a new set of icons that complemented the new visual design. The client informed us that our work was instrumental in their acquisition soon after the designs were implemented.

BEFORE (Thumbnail above)
Aside from the painful visualization, the peripheral panes showed too much redundant information and didn't focus enough upon what users would need to do with the information.
AFTER
By strengthening the relationship between the icons and the main visualization and adding a filter control, the panes are much easier to scan for the objects the user needs to work with. And by eliminating the redundancy in the bottom pane, the unique information stands out.

BEFORE
The colors, shapes and icons of the old user experience feel unsophisticated.

AFTER
The new visual design ties the objects that are presented in the visualization to the treeview on the left, and is much easier on users' eyes-an important detail for users who spend hours immersed in the UI.
